Introduction of the euroThe Euro was introduced officially on the 1st of January 1999 as a virtual currency, but only from the the 1st of January 2002 it entered physically in circulation with coins and bills in all the eurozone states. The European Central Bank (European Central Bank - ECB) is based in Frankfurt and manages the monetary policy of the euro together with the central banks of the eurozone countries (Eurosystem).
Coins and BanknotesCoins coin have a common side, while the other is different for each of the 18 states, that have individually decided which image is taken, banknotes otherwise are identical in every state.
